What is your favorite spot on the University of Tennessee campus?
- My favorite spot on campus is on top of The Hill -- the courtyard next to Ayres Hall. The spot symbolizes the University of Tennessee and what the original campus looked like. No matter what time of year it is, night or day, hot or cold, The Hill is a beautiful spot to relax, have fun, and sense what a campus should be like. (It's even fun to dance around, barefooted, in the middle of the night with your friends!)
What do you think is the best part of Sorority Recruitment at UT?
- The best part of recruitment, for me, was creating the memories that I will have with me for the rest of my life. I developed friendships that will last forever, I discovered how to transition from high school into college and making a life changing decision, and overall having the memory of opening up my bid card on Bid Day and running up to the suite to be greeted by 150 new sisters.
What piece of advice would you give to a potential new member (PNM)?
- If I could tell a PNM one thing, it would be to go into recruitment with an open mind and have no previous preconceptions on specific chapters. I can say from personal experience that the chapter you think is right for you, will more then likely not be where your heart leads you and your opinions on all other chapters will change drastically throughout the week. Have fun and listen to your heart!
Why did you go through Sorority Recruitment?
- I went through recruitment to have the experience that my sister had throughout college. That is being connected to a group of girls, staying involved around the community and campus, and always having someone there for you through good times and bad. After listening to her stories and meeting all of her sisters, I know instantly that I wanted the same thing for myself.
What is your best sorority moment?
- Every moment with the sorority is the best. However, if I had to choose one, I would say having the chance to live on the sorority floor with my pledge class would be one of my top moments. I became much closer to my pledge class throughout the year because it allowed us to spend everyday of our lives together. By crowding into one room to watch High School Musical 2, go shopping for Homecoming outfits, baking desserts for 6 straight hours in the kitchen, to going out on the weekends with the whole floor, the memories that was created will never be forgotten.
How has your sorority helped you academically?
- The sorority has always pushed for grades and keeping up a high GPA. They have always said school comes before the sorority and without any hesitation, focus in on what the main purpose of coming to school is for, and that is a degree. The chapter cares so much about our grades that they formulate study groups, tutors, and fellowship with the adviser who is an active faculty member on campus. If by chance, a chapter member's grades does fall below a certain GPA, we have a specific person on exec that will guide you to help to raise your grades.
